Very Rare Museum Grade 5.89 Troy Ounce Gold & Mariposite

This gorgeous super rare Gold & Mariposite (Phengite) is from the 16 to 1 Mine in Alleghany, Sierra County, California. Mariposite is a variety of Phengite, which is a chromium-rich variety of Mica. "Mariposite" also refers to the stone that the green mica is found in. The stone is actually a form of marble that contains varying amounts of quartz and dolomite. The mariposite imparts an attractive green color to the white dolomitic marble that it is layered onto. The gold runs in veins through the marble and the mariposite. The contrast is spectacular. The weight of this super rare gold specimen is 5.89 Troy Ounces (183.3 Grams). A specific gravity test shows that there is just under an ounce (0.90 Troy Ounce) of crystalline gold in this specimen so is really well priced for such a beautiful and rare specimen. The size of the specimen is 3.5" x 2.5" x 1". This is the only gold in Mariposite that I have ever seen, so if you want one for your collection you better grab it while you have the chance.
